This project was being carried out for Shell by the principal contractor Chicago Bridge and Iron. The Project involved the construction of the Liquid Natural Gas Tanks at Prigorodnoye, Sakhalin Island, which is located on the Far East Coast of Russia.
Wagners Global Services Division was contracted to produce and supply 65,000m³ of high strength structural concrete and 140,000 tonnes of concrete aggregates. Wagners were also required to source and supply all production equipment and provide quality testing and technical support.
Concrete production continued year around despite arctic conditions. In order to meet the client’s exacting specifications in this extreme climate Wagners introduced a number of innovation production techniques which included producing the concrete in large scale marquee tents to control temperature, heating the floor of the facility to regulate aggregate temperature and inserting insulated liners in the agitator bowls.
